So What Actually Happened?
Meta and Broadcom announced an expanded partnership to co-develop custom AI chips and networking technology together through at least 2029. Meta has committed to deploying one gigawatt of custom chips co-designed with Broadcom inside its AI data centers.

Why Does Meta Want Its Own Chips?
